‘His office is in Worli’: SC tells Republic TV to reach out to Bombay HC on TRP case

On Thursday, the Supreme Court refused to accept a Republic TV petition challenging the Mumbai police investigation into the TRP scam.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud asked the channel to move the Bombay high court first before heading to the Supreme Court.

His office is in Worli. Worli to Flora Fountain (where Bombay High Court is located) is closer. We must have faith in our higher courts, ”said Judge Chandrachud.

However, the judge also scorned the tendency of police officers to go to the press.

“We are concerned that police commissioners are giving interviews to the press these days,” Judge Chandrachud said.

Lead attorney Harish Salve agreed to withdraw the statement that was allowed by the court.

Mumbai Police had submitted an affidavit opposing the statement stating that freedom of expression under article 19 of the Constitution cannot be used as a shield to commit crimes and prevent the investigation of crime.

The affidavit also said that Republic TV has been conducting television discussions about the scam and contacting and intimidating witnesses.
