MUMBAI: Mumbai and its neighboring areas saw moderate to heavy overnight rains, through Thursday morning.
Earlier in its forecast, the Met department had issued an orange alert (storm accompanied by lightning, gusts of wind and very heavy rain likely in isolated locations) for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad for Thursday.

A red alert for extremely heavy rains was issued in isolated locations for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad by Friday.

The Met department also issued a yellow alert (storm accompanied by lightning / gusty winds and heavy rain likely in isolated locations) for Saturday.
The Colaba observatory has received 115.8 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m., while Santacruz recorded 86.5 mm of rain in the same period. Colaba and Santacruz had registered only 0.8 mm and 1.7 mm of rain respectively between 8:30 and 20:30 on Wednesday.
