Planning a trip during the holiday season? Indian Railways will operate 392 festival special trains from this date

Indian Railways will run 196 pairs of festival special trains between October 20 and November 30, 2020.

In view of the upcoming holiday season, Indian Railways has decided to operate 196 pairs of festival special trains (392 trains) between October 20, 2020 and November 30, 2020. These festival special trains will run to destinations such as Kolkata , Lucknow, Patna, Varanasi, among others, to cater for the growing demand during the festive period of Diwali, Dussehra, Durga Puja and Chhatt Puja, according to a report from PTI. The national carrier has said that the rates for these special train services will be similar to those applicable to Indian Railways special trains. This means that “special charges” will be applied to train tickets, making them more expensive by 10% to 30% compared to express / postal train fares, depending on the class of travel.

So far, the domestic carrier has put into service a total of 666 express / postal special trains which are now regularly operated on the Indian railway network. In addition, some local trains also operate in the city of Mumbai, as well as certain rail services of the Kolkata metro. However, the special trains of the new festival will only run until November 30, 2020 and will not have a continuous route. These special festival trains will run at a speed of 55 km per hour, according to an order recently issued by the Board of Railways.

Indian Railways will take stock of passenger train services on a daily basis depending on the needs of state governments and the state of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chairman and CEO of the Board of Railways, VK Yadav, said earlier this year. this month. The Railroad Board had held meetings with the zone general managers and had also instructed them to speak with the local administration and review the status of the pandemic, Yadav said. Zonal railways have been asked to submit a report to the Railroad Board, after which it will be decided how many trains can be introduced during the holiday season, he said. While the festival’s special trains have been approved by the Railroad Board, it will be up to the zonal railways to finalize their details and schedules, the report adds.
