HYDERABAD: Until Tuesday, the Musi River in Hyderabad was struggling to flow, but now it is overflowing. All roads along the river are being vacated and vehicle movement is restricted for fear that the roads will be washed away by the river.

Thirteen of the seventeen gates of the Himayatsagar reservoir were lifted in Hyderabad as the influx continued to increase on Wednesday morning due to heavy rains.

The decision was made when the water level touched its full reservoir level (FRL) of 1,763,500 feet on Tuesday at midnight. At around 1 a.m. Wednesday, four of the 17 gates were raised. Later on Wednesday morning 13 gates were opened at 6 feet due to heavy inflows, almost 22,800 cusecs of water, while the output is around 23,800 cusecs.

Residents of Kismatpur, Bandlaguda, Hyderguda, Langar Houz and Karwan along the Musi River were alerted to the flooding last night.

Sangam Ghat near Bapu Ghat in Langer Houz is flooded due to the overflow of the river. HMWSSB authorities, district officials, GHMC disaster rescue teams along with the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) are undertaking rescue operations along the Musi River.
