Patna:
Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar’s opposition leader and its top ministerial candidate, has challenged four-time Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from his homeland, Nalanda. “Let him select any constituency of the home district, Nalanda, and I will compete against him,” the 30-year-old said today as he presented his nomination from the Raghopur assembly seat.
Bihar, he said, is “headed for a change,” indicating that people will pay Kumar back for his abrupt mid-term team change.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal, led by Yadav while his father Lalu Yadav is in jail, won the majority of 80 of the 243 state seats in the 2015 elections as part of the Grand Alliance with Congress and Nitish Kumar’s Janata. . Dal United. Kumar’s party won 71 seats and Congress 27 seats.
But two years later, in July 2017, Nitish Kumar broke ties with the two parties and joined the BJP, reviving the old alliance he broke in 2013 over the projection of Narendra Modi as the NDA’s prime ministerial candidate.
Kumar, who had refrained from attacking the son of his enemy friend, began earlier this week by launching his election campaign.
Both Tejashwi Yadav and the Third Front’s top ministerial candidate – Upendra Kushwaha – were lightweights, Kumar noted, saying “Kisi mein koi dam nahi hain (Neither has potential) “.
The Chief Minister also confronted Tejashwi Yadav over his promise to provide 10 lakhs of jobs at his first cabinet meeting. “You (the voters) should find out how many cabinet meetings used to take place during the 15 years of your parents’ rule,” he had scoffed at Lalu Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi.
“Let’s discuss my 20 months in his cabinet,” Tejashwi Yadav replied today, noting his role as Kumar’s deputy in the Grand Alliance government. At the time, he had been in charge of the lucrative Highway Construction Department.
Tejashwi Yadav had been the catalyst for Nitish Kumar’s break with the Grand Alliance. A corruption case revolving around Tejashwi Yadav had brought him to the brink, Nitish Kumar had said. Without attacking his young MP in public, Nitish Kumar had made it clear that without any explanation from the RJD camp, he would not be able to continue in government.
Lalu Yadav and his son had been relentless in their criticism of the chief minister, saying he was making a problem with the BJP accusations to justify his departure from the alliance.
Bihar will vote on October 28, November 3 and 7 for a new government and the results will be announced on November 10.
