A late-game 18th incident during the chase caught the attention of fans, sparking much debate. Shardul Thakur launched the second pitch of the 18 over a ‘a little too wide’, prompting the referee to raise his hand to signal the extra. However, just as the referee was raising his hand, MS Dhoni was seen raising his hands while also ‘looking’ at the referee from behind the stumps, shortly after which the referee did not give the extra. A heated debate ensued among fans on the internet, with certain sections of fans blaming MS Dhoni for intimidating the referee, while others jumped to the defense of their ‘Thala’ MS Dhoni, pointing out that it was the referee’s final decision and that the referee Captain had the right to protest the decision taken.
