Monday’s episode of Bigg Boss 14 had a nasty surprise for fans of Punjabi music artist Sara Gurpal, who was evicted in the show’s first knockout round. After the nomination tasks were carried out, the list of nominated contestants included Sara Gurpal, Jaan Kumar Sanu, Eijaz Khan, Abhinav Shukla, Shehzad Deol, Nishant Singh Malkhani, and Rahul Vaidya. But Bigg Boss introduced a twist and asked the ‘elders’ of the house – ex big boss contestants Siddharth Shukla, Hina Khan and Gauahar Khan – to choose a contestant for eviction. After much deliberation, they focused on Sara Gurpal, who then burst into tears.
The morning after her eviction, Sara Gurpal has been trending on Twitter as the decision of the elderly was not very well received by Internet users. Sara Gurpal’s fans described the sudden removal as “unfair” and “unethical”, citing that she has always been an active executor of tasks and in no way less deserving than the remaining candidates. “We are with Sara Gurpal”, said a tweet while another added: “Sara Gurpal did not deserve this. The worst decision in history to eliminate Sara Gurpal.” Another user wrote: “Innocence is no longer respected, people love bullies who push, yell, yell. This is the worst possible eviction, the most unfair.”
Several viewers also tagged the show and requested that Sara Gurpal return as a wild card contestant: “We want Sara Gurpal to return to the show.” Netizens also criticized Siddharth for suggesting Sara’s name for the eviction, while Hina and Gauahar were accused of giving in to Siddharth. On Monday’s episode, Gauahar proposed Rahul Vaidya’s name for the eviction, but Siddharth insisted that Sara should leave. Hina and Gauahar agreed with Siddharth’s decision, saying that next time he will have to listen to them.
