Students who missed JEE Advanced may reappear in 2021: JAB

Students who skipped the IIT – JEE Advanced entrance exam will have an additional opportunity to sit for the exam next year, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) decided today at an emergency meeting.

“To address the concerns of affected candidates, while avoiding biases about other candidates, it has been decided to allow all candidates, who had successfully registered to appear in JEE Advanced 2020 but were absent in the exam, to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2021, as the only measure, ”said the official statement.

Currently, a candidate is allowed only two attempts at the IIT entrance exam, however, those in their final year or second attempt who were unable to take the exam this year will receive a relaxation. the Students have raised the demand to expand the number of attempts. and academics for quite some time.

The number of students showing up for JEE Advanced 2020 was also a record low. Of the 2.5 lakh students who were eligible to appear only 1.5 lakh had appeared for the exam.

To ensure equal opportunity for all, the JAB has also decided that these candidates will not have to qualify for JEE (Main) 2021 and will be allowed to appear directly in JEE (Advanced) 2021 based on their successful registration to appear in JEE . (Advanced) 2020. This relaxation of the existing eligibility criteria will be in addition to the proportional relaxation of the age bar.

Furthermore, it was decided that these candidates would be considered in addition to and not as part of the total number of candidates who would qualify from JEE (Main) 2021 to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2021.
