PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti Detained for Over a Year, Released | India News


SRINAGAR: PDP President and former Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti she was released Tuesday night when the Union Territory administration reversed the Public Safety Act charges against her, more than a year after she was detained following the repeal of the former state’s special status.
The incident occurred just two days before the Supreme Court heard the matter related to his arrest.
Mufti’s daughter, Iltija Mufti, tweeted the news of his release.
“Now that Ms. Mufti’s illegal detention is finally coming to an end, I would like to thank everyone who supported me through these difficult times. I owe you all a debt of gratitude. This is Iltija’s farewell. protect, “he tweeted.

Shortly after the news of his release, the official PDP administrator tweeted that Mufti will address a press conference on October 16.

The leader of the National Conference, Omar Abdullah, welcomed the release of Mufti and called his arrest “a parody”.

“Mehbooba Mufti has apparently been released. Good news. She has had a very difficult time. We wish her the best,” tweeted Sajad Lone, president of the People’s Conference.
Mufti, 60, was initially detained on August 5 last year when the Center repealed the former state’s special status and forked it into two union territories: Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
He was in preventive detention for more than 14 months. She was first detained under Sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC, but was later booked under the controversial Public Safety Law.
Mehbooba was initially accommodated at the Cheshma Shahi Guest House and was later transferred to another government guesthouse on MA Link Road here.
The PPD president was then taken to her residence, where she remained under house arrest.
Mehbooba’s daughter, Iltija, had contested her arrest in the Supreme Court, which last heard the case on September 29.

Mufti heads the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which was in power in Jammu and Kashmir in alliance with the BJP until June 2018. Initially, she was taken into preventive custody. Later, on February 5 this year, she was slapped with the PSA along with Omar Abdullah, who was released in March. Farooq Abdullah had been released early last month.
