Covid-19 positivity rate in India steadily downward trend: Ministry of Health


The Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday that the positivity rate for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in India is on a “steady downward trend” and that the country’s cumulative positivity rate is 8 .7%, the weekly rate at 6.24% and the daily rate at 5.16%.

The Health Ministry also said that India has maintained its global position of being the country with one of the lowest Covid-19 cases and related deaths per million. “The average daily positivity rate for Covid-19 has decreased from 8.50% between September 9 and 15 to 6.24% between October 7 and 13,” he said.

There are 838,729 active cases in the country to date and they have been below the 900,000 mark for the fifth consecutive day, he added. “India is reporting a steady drop in new confirmed cases with 55,342 new infections recorded in a 24-hour span in the country. The new decrease in daily cases is the result of the collaborative action of the states and UT under the strategy of the Center of exhaustive and aggressive tests, rapid follow-up and surveillance, hospitalization and adherence to the Standard Treatment Protocol that has ensured a standardized quality of healthcare throughout the country. public and private hospitals and for home isolation, ”said the ministry.

The ministry said 76% of new cases are from 10 states and Union territories. “Karnataka has overtaken Maharashtra with the highest number of new reported cases. Both continue to contribute more than 7,000 new cases. The states that are reporting a sudden increase in cases are Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh. Additionally, 77,760 new recoveries were added in a 24-hour span, according to the data. With this, the total number of recoveries has increased to 62,27,295 ”, he added.

The higher number of recoveries in a single day is also reflected in the continued increase in the national recovery rate, which is currently 86.78%, it added. “In addition, 78% of the new recovered cases are in 10 states and UT. Maharashtra contributes more than 15,000 to the single-day recovery followed by Karnataka with more than 12,000 recoveries. The number of deaths due to Covid-19 has been less than the 1000 mark in successive days, ”he said.

There were 706 deaths related to Covid-19 in the 24 hours and of these, almost 79% are concentrated in 10 states and UT. “More than 23% of the new deaths reported are from Maharashtra. The state contributed more than 15,000 to the single-day recovery followed by Karnataka with more than 12,000 recoveries, ”the ministry added.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in India amounted to 7,175,880 and its death toll rose to 109,856, according to the Ministry of Health panel on Tuesday morning.
