Chennai:
Actress Khushbu Sundar, who switched sides from Congress to the BJP, responded to her former party today, saying that Congress “does not want a smart woman” and that “there is no freedom to tell the truth” within the party. Ms. Sundar, a national congressional spokesperson with a strong social media presence, after leaving Congress, had alleged that some leaders were “dictating terms” and “repressing her.”
Congress had said his departure will not affect next year’s assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Upon arrival at the Chennai airport, Ms. Sundar called Congress “mentally retarded”, citing comments from the leaders of the state Congress.
Then, in the press conference to which he addressed from the BJP office, he said: “I was loyal to Congress. But Congress disrespected me … They (Congress) do not want an intelligent woman. To say that I she was seen only as an actress, shows the cheap thoughts of Congress. “
Calling herself a “periyarista”, she said: “How can a party do good that does not give freedom to tell the truth?”
Social activist Periyar EV Ramasamy, father of the Dravidian movement, also raised his voice against “atrocities against women,” he said.
A strong critic from the BJP who tweeted her views often labeling Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ms Sundar said today: “As a member of the opposition, I opposed the BJP.”
But he also added that his opposition was not just for opposing it. “I also praised Prime Minister Modi on certain issues,” he said.
One such occasion was in August when he praised the Prime Minister’s new education policy and apologized to Rahul Gandhi for his views.
In his tweet, he made clear his misgivings with the party, saying he would not be a “puppet.”
“My stance on # NEP2020 differs from my party n I apologize to @RahulGandhi ji for that, but I’d rather say the fact than being a nodding robot or a puppet. It’s not about agreeing with our leader, but to be brave to express your opinion bravely as a citizen, “his tweet read.
With Congress out of power, Ms. Sudar’s career was found to have stalled. The BJP is expected to give him a great job for the 2021 assembly elections. There are also unconfirmed reports of a Rajya Sabha seat.
The 50-year-old had started her political career with the DMK in 2010 when she was in power. But he resigned in 2014 and joined Congress, saying “the hard work for the DMK had been a one-way street.”
After joining Congress, he said he feels “at home.” “Congress is the only party that could do good to the people of India and unite the country,” he had said.
