Elections for 11 seats from Rajya Sabha, nine from Uttar Pradesh and one from Uttarakhand, will be held on November 9.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Congressman Raj Babbar are among 11 Rajya Sabha MPs whose terms expire in November.

Masks, thermal scanning and the use of disinfectants will be ensured to control the spread of the coronavirus, which has so far affected more than 70 lakh people in India. Government-imposed rules on social distancing will also be strictly followed, the Election Commission said in a statement.

The official statement further said that “chief election officials have been designated as observers in the two states” and that the chief secretaries of the two states have been ordered “to delegate a senior officer to ensure that instructions on COVID-19 containment measures with while making arrangements for the conduct of the elections. “

Last month, the monsoon session of parliament, which began on September 14, concluded eight days ahead of schedule amid concerns about the spread of the coronavirus disease among members.

Later this month, state elections will begin in Bihar on October 28 and will be held in three phases (October 28, November 3 and 7); Results will be announced on November 10. The country’s largest election in the coronavirus crisis will take place with many changes, including an additional hour of voting and no physical contact during the campaign. Bihar has to elect a new assembly of 243 members before November 29.

By-elections to 54 assembly seats in 10 states will also be held on November 3. The list of states where elections will be held includes Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Odisha, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.

For the safety of voters, workers, and political party leaders, the Election Commission produced an elaborate list of dos and don’ts, which includes including an extra hour of voting, masks and gloves for voters and no physical contact during the campaign.
