New Delhi:
A coronavirus vaccine is expected to be available in India early next year and there could be vaccines from more than one source, today Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan.
“We hope that early next year, we should have the vaccine in the country from perhaps more than one source. Our expert groups are already formulating and devising strategies to plan how to implement the distribution of the vaccines in the country, which do we give the vaccine first and then of course we are strengthening the cold chain facilities? ”said Dr. Harsh Vardhan during a meeting of the Group of Ministers.
Currently, four coronavirus vaccines are in advanced stages of preclinical testing in India.
The minister had previously said that a COVID-19 vaccine is likely to be available by the first quarter of 2021.
On Sunday, the minister had said that considering the large size of India’s population, a single vaccine or vaccine manufacturer will not be able to meet the requirements to vaccinate the entire country.
“Therefore, we are open to assess the feasibility of introducing various COVID-19 vaccines in the country based on their availability to the Indian population,” he said.
India is the second country most affected by the coronavirus pandemic after the United States.
The number of new coronavirus infections reported daily across the country fell below 60,000, even as the number of cases rose to 71,75,880 and total recoveries exceeded 62 lakh, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health.
