Reliance Jio added more than 35 lakh of wireless subscribers to its mobile network in July 2020, while Vi, which renamed the old Vodafone-Idea, lost 37 lakh of subscribers, the monthly report from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority noted. from India. With this, Jio continues its leadership in the wireless subscriber market in India with a market share of 35.03 percent. According to TRAI, Vi remains the third largest telecommunications company in India with a 26.34 percent market share, behind Bharti Airtel and ahead of the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. Second place is held by Airtel with a 27.96 percent market share in the wireless phone segment. The total wireless subscriber base increased from 114 million rupees at the end of June to 114.4 million rupees at the end of July, thus registering a monthly growth rate of 0.30 percent.

TRAI data further highlights that wireless subscription in rural India increased from Rs 52 crore to 52 cores during the same period, while the wireless subscriber base in urban areas also recorded a growth rate of 0, 25 percent to 62 crore. Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, wireless teledensity in the country also grew from 84.38 percent in late June to 84.56 percent in late July.


Coming to the broadband segment, the top five service providers made up 98.91 percent of the market share and Reliance Jio also ranked first with a 56.98 percent market share. The second place is occupied by Airtel (22.08 percent) followed by Vi (16.34 percent) and BSNL (3.26 percent) and Atria Convergence (0.24 percent). Total broadband subscribers for July recorded a growth rate of 1.03 percent, thus raising the numbers to Rs 70.5 crore.
