Mumbai:
Actor Rhea Chakraborty has filed a complaint with the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) accusing a neighbor of making “obviously false and untrue accusations … to mislead the investigation” into the death of fellow actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Ms Chakraborty, who has been the subject of lurid conspiracies and trolls regarding her alleged role in the death of the Rajput, also complained about “media channels (which) published untrue and false stories without any supporting material. .. to achieve their own ends. “
In her letter to the CBI, Ms Chakraborty said that the neighbor’s claim – “that the late Sushant Singh Rajput had left me at my residence in his car on June 13” – was “completely false”.
“… such conduct makes a prima facie case punishable … with imprisonment for a minimum of seven years,” he said in his letter, adding that he was recording the “false and false stories” transmitted by certain news channels forwarded.
On Sunday, sources said the neighbor had failed to substantiate her claim, that she saw Mr Rajput bring Ms Chakraborty to her residence on June 13.
Mr. Rajput died at his Mumbai residence the following day.
The CBI team met with the neighbor when they were at Ms Chakraborty’s home in connection with the investigation. But when asked about his claims, he was unable to provide evidence.
Subsequently, the CBI had warned him not to spread false information.
Chakraborty, who was released on bail last week after spending nearly a month in Bombay’s Byculla jail, has been vilified by a section of the electronic media.
The actor has blamed this for the snowballing of the issue, prompting the involvement of three central agencies, the arrest of her and her brother, and the harassment of her father by the media.
After the High Court granted him bail and contradicted the Bureau of Narcotics claim that he was “an active member of a drug syndicate,” Chakraborty’s attorney, Satish Maneshinde, said the actor would fight all those who had made false claims about her.
“We will send to the CBI a list of people who made false and untrue claims on television and electronic media, including mobile recordings and false stories … with special reference to Rhea Chakraborty,” Maneshinde said in a statement.
“We ask CBI to initiate legal proceedings against them for misleading the investigation,” he added.
Meanwhile, on Monday, top Bollywood filmmakers filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court against “irresponsible reporting by certain media outlets”, in the aftermath of the investigation.
