NEW DELHI: The depression over the Gulf of Bengal intensified into a deep depression on Monday and is likely to cross the northern coast of Andhra Pradesh between Narsapur and Vishakhapatnam early Tuesday, the Indian Meteorological Department said.
Under its influence, very heavy rains are expected during Telangana, strong to very strong drops are likely in isolated locations Karnataka, Rayalaseema, southern Konkan and Goa, central Maharashtra and Marathawada on Tuesday, IMD’s Cyclone Warning Division said.
Heavy rains are also likely in isolated locations on the north coast of Andhra Pradesh in the south Odishaand Vidarbha, it said.
“Yesterday’s depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal shifted to the west-northwest, intensifying into a deep depression. It is most likely moving west-northwest and across the north coast of Andhra. Pradesh between Narsapur and Vishakhapatnam, near Kakinada, during the early morning hours of October 13 as a deep depression with a maximum sustained wind speed of 55 to 65 km / h with gusts of 75 km / h, “he added.
Deep depression is a stage below which any cyclonic circulation intensifies into a cyclone.
October often sees cyclones forming over the Bay of Bengal that hit the eastern coasts, especially Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Gust wind speed would increase to 55-65 km / h with gusts of 75 km / h over the west central Bay of Bengal and along the coast of Andhra Pradesh and from 50 to 60 km / h with gusts of 70 km / h over the northwest of the Bay of Bengal, the southwest of the Bay of Bengal and along and off the coasts of Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry since Monday night, IMD said.
Sea conditions will be “rough to very rough” along and off the coasts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until October 13 evening and beyond. Gulf of Mannar during October 12-13.
Anglers are advised not to venture into the west-central, north-west and south-west of the Bay of Bengal, along and off the coasts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until the evening of October 13 and over the Gulf of Mannar from October 12-13.
