Nirbhay missile
Bhubaneswar: The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) conducted a test-fire of the Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile on Monday, but the test was unsuccessful.
DRDO officials said the missile developed an issue during flight test and details were being worked out.
“During the flight test of the Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile, an issue developed. The details of the issue are being determined,” he added. AND ME They quoted DRDO officials as saying.
Hindustan Times previously reported that the DRDO aborted the missile test eight minutes after it was fired from a test facility in Odisha.
It was the 10th missile test conducted by DRDO in just over a month. The tests come amid the ongoing border dispute with India.
It should be noted here that Nirbhay subsonic missiles have already been deployed in limited numbers near the Chinese border.
The Nirbhay missile has a range of about 800 kilometers.
The Nirbhay missile is capable of flying at a speed of 0.7 Mach. Its flight capabilities include sea gliding and hugging terrain, helping it evade enemy radars.
The DRDO states on its website:
“Nirbhay is a long-range submarine cruise missile capable of penetrating deep into adversary territory to strike high-value targets with precision. The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) as the designer and integrator of the system led a consortium of DRDO laboratories for indigenous design and development of Nirbhay.
“Currently, Nirbhay is launched from a mobile articulated launcher. This missile is being adopted for launch from maritime and air platforms. India is on the list of a select few countries that have the capacity to design and develop this class of cruise missiles. “
