For the first time for Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader apologized for failing to support his people during the pandemic, The Guardian reported on Monday.
Speaking on the 75th anniversary of the birth of his ruling party, a visibly emotional Kim acknowledged that he did not live up to the trust that North Koreans placed in him, and for that he was “truly sorry.” Kim removed her glasses and wiped away tears during the speech, according to the report.
Highlighting the legacy of the “great work” done by his forefathers, Kim was quoted as saying: “Although I have been entrusted with the important responsibility of leading this country defending the cause of great comrades Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il thank you for the trust of all the people, my effort and sincerity have not been enough to free our people from the difficulties in their lives ”.
In his emotional speech, Kim reflected on the difficult times people around the world are going through due to the coronavirus pandemic and expressed his desire to improve relations with South Korea. He avoided any direct criticism in Washington DC
On Saturday, North Korea displayed its latest missile, which was larger than any of North Korea’s known intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICMBs), in a huge military parade.

After the parade, South Korea on Sunday expressed concern and once again urged North Korea to fulfill its previous disarmament promises. “North Korea unveiled weapons, including what was suspected to be a new long-range ballistic missile,” the South Korean Defense Ministry said in a statement. The statement also reminded North Korea to stick to its 2018 inter-Korean agreements aimed at reducing animosities.
The South Korean Foreign Ministry in a separate statement urged its neighbor to return to talks aimed at achieving denuclearization and peace on the Korean peninsula.
