Mumbai Power Cut Live News Updates: On Monday, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took serious notice of the blackout in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and ordered an immediate investigation into it.
The state’s Energy Minister Nitin Raut said the reasons behind the technical problem that caused the power failure in parts of the MMR will be investigated once the electricity supply is restored. Thackeray discussed the issue with Raut and asked him to make immediate efforts to restore supply in the MMR.
An official statement said the prime minister took note of the power outage seriously and ordered an immediate investigation.
Train services were stopped in Mumbai on Monday morning after a network failure caused massive power outages in the city.
The exact reason for the failure was not immediately known, but Western Railway and Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), the state-owned company that supplies power, blamed Tata Power for the outage.
Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut said that maintenance work was underway at the 400 kv Kalwa-Padgha center of the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company when the technical failure occurred on circuit number 2, which it was taking the whole load at the time. “A large part of Mumbai and Thane has been affected because of this, power will be restored in 30-45 minutes,” he said.
Power outages were also reported in suburbs such as Thane, Panvel, Dombivili and Kalyan.
