Mumbai:
Much of Mumbai and its suburbs are facing a power outage as several trains have stopped. The outage, according to the city’s electricity supply board, is due to “TATA’s incoming power failure.” Road signs in some areas have also stopped working.
Western Railway said the outage is due to a grid failure at Tata Power.
A large-scale power failure is unprecedented for the metropolis. The electricity supply, interrupted at 10:05 am, is expected to be restored in 45 minutes to an hour, authorities said.
“Power supply is interrupted due to failure of TATA’s incoming power supply. The inconvenience is regretted,” tweeted Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST).
Several suburban trains on the central line and the western line have been suspended.
“Suburban trains from Mumbai to CR were delayed due to a network failure. We will update as soon as possible. Please bear with us,” Central Railways tweeted.

Within minutes of the outage, people turned to social media. Hashtags like #powercut, #Mumbai, and #poweroutage started trending on Twitter.
“Is everyone’s power gone ?! I … what’s going on? #Mumbai,” one user tweeted.
Another user wrote: “Wow, all of Mumbai has a power cut and suddenly no one can take it anymore.”
Some were clueless with a sudden cut. “Is it like a city-wide power outage? #Mumbai #electricity,” read one tweet.
