Guwahati:
An incipient mutiny against the Prime Minister of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb, by a section of the BJP MLA, has arrived in Delhi with a dozen of them trying to meet with top party leaders and brief them on what they claim as “poor leadership” and “mismanagement” of the boss. Minister.
The group led by former state Health Minister and BJP MLA heavyweight Sudip Roy Barman, has sought appointments with party chief JP Nadda and Secretary General BL Santosh.
They are also trying to meet with Union Interior Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one of the members of the MLA camp in Tripura Bhawan in New Delhi told NDTV on condition of anonymity.
“We are about 12 MLA who have decided to value the party leadership for the total dictatorship, the bad government of the prime minister, which in turn is leaving the party very unpopular,” he said.
“We want to tell the national leadership that we are all workers committed to the party and we would like the BJP government in the state to remain for more than one term. But if the current leadership continues, opposition forces such as the left and even the Congress will pick up lost ground, “he said.
“The prime minister has already embarrassed the party more than once with such lax comments on various issues,” added the leader.
The dissidents also allege that the management of the COVID-19 crisis has been very poor in the state, forcing the center to rush a team to Tripura. “During the ongoing pandemic, there is no dedicated health minister in the state,” said one leader.
“Experienced IAS and IPS officers are leaving the state either by deputation or voluntary retirement, as they cannot stand up to the dictatorship of the prime minister. He has even threatened the media and journalists have opened a front against him,” He said.
“Most of the party’s MLAs want a change of leadership,” the MLA added.
However, a close associate of Prime Minister Biplab Deb questioned the scale of the revolt. “There are only seven or eight MLAs that are trying to create disturbances in the proper functioning of the government and that are mostly imports from Congress,” he told NDTV, asking not to be named.
In addition, he stated that BJP veterans and the majority of party workers and leaders at different levels have full faith and trust in Deb’s leadership.
The BJP and its ally, the Tripura Indigenous Peoples Front (IPFT) had recorded a historic victory in the state in 2018, ousting the 25-year-old Left Front government. In the 60-member assembly, the BJP has 36 MLAs and is supported by 8 MLAs from IPFT.
