Days after a Rajasthan priest was burned alive, another priest in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh was shot on Saturday night over a land dispute. Identified as Samrat Das, a priest of the Ram Janaki temple located in the Etiathok Kotwali area, he has been referred to the Lucknow Trauma Center in critical condition.

The local police registered a case in the matter and have arrested two defendants. While two more defendants escape and a search operation was launched.


According to the information, the criminals shot Das and immediately fled the scene. Another priest from the same temple, Baba Sitaram Das, was also attacked by criminals last year and a police investigation into this matter is still underway.

After receiving first aid at a nearby district hospital, Das was referred to Lucknow in critical condition.

“Two people have been arrested and the police are looking for two other people involved in the attack. Priest Samrat Das’s condition is out of danger and he is undergoing treatment in Lucknow. All the defendants in this case will be caught soon. Both parties involved in this matter were having a dispute over land, ”SP Shailesh Kumar Pandey told the media.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Anurag Bhadauria attacked the UP government for the law and order situation in the state, saying: “Criminals have a free hand in the state and they are no longer afraid of the state. policeman.
