Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with issuing online threats to MS Dhoni’s daughter on social media after Chennai Super Kings’ defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.
Authorities collected the boy from the Namna Kapaya village of Mundra in the Kutch region of Gujarat. The minor is a level 12 student and confessed to issuing rape threats, according to Kutch police. He will reportedly be handed over to the Ranchi police.
CSK players, especially MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav, were recently subjected to abuse and threats on social media after their latest defeats at the ongoing IPL 2020. And to everyone’s surprise, MS Dhoni’s five-year-old daughter, Ziva, was also attacked by trolls.
The trolls threatened the girl with rape and physical violence while venting their frustration at her father’s indifference in the field. The threats allegedly appeared on the Instagram accounts of MS Dhoni and his wife Sakshi. The police have acted quickly after the unfortunate incident.
Before arresting the boy, the Ranchi police also reinforced security at MS Dhoni’s farm in Ranchi. Police said that in addition to increasing patrols, personnel in civilian clothing have also been deployed near his country house to keep a close eye on suspicious elements.
The former captain of India is currently in the UAE for the tournament, while his wife and daughter are in Ranchi.
CSK’s bad start to the season:
With just two wins in its first seven games, the MS Dhoni-led team currently languishes in seventh place on the points table. The three-time champions will have to make a notable change to keep their playoffs alive. CSK have made the playoffs in the ten seasons they have played thus far.
On Saturday they suffered another crushing defeat at the hands of RCB. Chasing 170, the Chennai-based team could only manage to score 132 of 8 in the 20 allotted overs.
