On Sunday, Congress attacked the BJP over allegations of corruption against some family members of Karnataka’s chief minister, BS Yediyurappa, in connection with a housing project and demanded a time-limited judicial investigation into the matter. When opposition leader Siddaramaiah made the accusations against the prime minister in the Karnataka Assembly last month, Yediyurappa dismissed them as “unfounded” and challenged the congressional leader to prove the charges.

Citing media reports, Congressional spokesman Abhishek Singhvi alleged on Sunday that the BJP government in Karnataka is “engulfed in the clutches of corruption with dented and corrupt leaders ruling the roost.” “If the prime minister has the slightest sense of shame, he should resign or be fired,” Singhvi said.

He also questioned the “silence” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Interior Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda on allegations of corruption and bribery against Yediyurappa’s son, son-in-law and grandson. The matter relates to a 662 million rupee construction of an apartment project in Bengaluru, Singhvi said, claiming that media reports have “revealed the direct involvement of close relatives such as son, son-in-law and grandson in corruption and bribery in relationship with the project “.

“It has shocked the conscience of the whole country, but it seems that the BJP has no conscience,” Singhvi said. The congressional leader cited an alleged communication between a close relative of Yediyurappa and another person referring to a bribe paid by a contractor to a senior official of the Bengaluru Development Authority.

Singhvi claimed that an additional bribe was solicited and paid through shell companies in Kolkata. He said the Corruption Prevention Law and the Money Laundering Prevention Law should be invoked and the accusations should be investigated.

“The most notable and virtually admitted allegations of blatant corruption and we did not even find a criminal investigation,” Singhvi said, adding that an FIR was not even filed on the matter. “We demand … to appoint a sitting Supreme Court (judge) or acting Chief Justice as an investigator for two months,” he said.

This is “fraud, falsehood and manipulation,” which has turned BJP into a party of “jugglers” who are indulging in “jiggery-pokery,” he said in a blow to the ruling party. Congress has been accusing the Yediyurappa government of corruption, a charge that it has categorically denied.
