Congress calls for Karnataka CM to resign over corruption allegations and mocks Prime Minister Modi

The Congress party on Sunday renewed calls for the resignation of Karnataka Prime Minister BS Yediyurappa over Rs 662 million corruption charges against him, his son, grandson and son-in-law. Launching a strong attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said it is involved in a handful of corruption with “dented and painted leaders.

Singhvi was referring to the accusation made by an opposition leader, Siddaramaiah, against Yediyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra received a bribe from a contractor for the Bangalore development authority.

He also said that the alleged audio and WhatsApp conversation involving Yediyurappa’s son and grandson reveals direct involvement in corruption and asked why no criminal complaint has been filed so far. “You have a bribe and a receiver in front of you.”

“Why is he not subject to criminal proceedings?” he also asked. “Does the prime minister of Karanataka have a special influence?” Singhvi said while questioning the government’s silence on the matter.

“If the BJP and the prime minister have a basic sense of shame, then Yediyurappa should resign or be fired,” Singhvi told a news conference.

Furthermore, he mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying: “Why is the vigilante sleeping in the Yediyurappa case?”

“It is a pity that you (Prime Minister Modi) are being vigilant of the houses of others but allowing corruption to happen in your own house,” said Singhvi.
