A high-ranking Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and his wife were killed by unidentified assailants at their home in the Bhowra area of Dhanbad district, about 150 kilometers from the state capital, Ranchi, late Saturday. said the police.
The bodies of Shankar Rawani, 50, and Balika Devi, 45, were found with gunshot and stab wounds at their residence Sunday morning. Police recovered an empty 9mm pistol cartridge and a knife from the crime scene.
Rawani was vice president of JMM’s Dhanbad City.
Police Superintendent (City) R Ramkumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sindri, SK Sinha and Officer in Charge of Bhowra Police Station Kalika Ram started the incident investigation early in the morning.
SP Ramkumar said: “We have recovered a knife and a 9mm pistol cartridge, which could have been used to commit the crime, from the scene. The investigation is underway and the people involved in the crime will be arrested soon. ”A sniffer dog was also deployed to find clues to the killers, police said.
Prima facie, the police suspect that an old feud between two families is the motive for the murder. Previously, Rawani’s eldest son Kunal, 25, who was charged in the murder case of Rainbow Group chairman Dhirendra Rawani, was killed in 2017. Rawani’s second son, Karan, 22, is studying outside of Jharkhand.
