The Telangana Cabinet on Saturday approved the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Amendments Act of 1955 by providing a 50% reserve to women on the GHMC Council, the operation of the neighborhood committees and the reserve of the neighborhoods. The state government will present the amendments in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, October 13, which begins with this particular purpose among other matters.

Meanwhile, the government plans to hold GHMC elections in December, as the current Council’s term of office is completed in November.

The cabinet meeting, held in Pragathi Bhavan under the chairmanship of Prime Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, discussed in detail the measures taken by the government to ensure that farmers did not face difficulties due to Covid-19. The Cabinet decided to establish 6,000 rice buying centers to buy rice in the villages, so that farmers will not face any problems in view of the ongoing pandemic.

The Cabinet also expressed concern about the Center’s policy of importing corn, despite having sufficient reserve reserves in the country, which caused a drop in the Minimum Livelihood Price (MSP) for farmers. The Cabinet considered that the Center’s policy on agriculture and its products is seriously damaging the agricultural sector.

The Council of Ministers approved amendments to the state revenue law to prevent any human interference in converting agricultural land to non-agricultural status and also approved necessary amendments to the Registration Law. It was decided to extend the date of the online registration of non-agricultural properties until October 20.

The State Cabinet has also discussed the Integrated Municipal Policy under the Hyderabad-HMDA Metropolitan Development Authority.
