A female member of Congress was assaulted by party workers at an event in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly questioning the decision behind presenting a rape accused for the next electoral assembly. A video of the assault appeared on social media in which Tara Yadav is seen being pushed off a stage before being physically assaulted by multiple men.

Yadav told the news agency AND ME“The party workers beat me when I questioned the party’s decision to give a rapist, Mukund Bhaskar, a ticket for the next election. Now, I’m waiting for Priyanka Gandhi ji to act. “

Mukund Bhaskar Mani Tripathi, a long-time member of Congress, participates from the seat of the Deoria Assembly. When nomination for by-votes in seven Uttar Pradesh Assembly seats began on Friday, Congress declared the names of five candidates. The party had previously declared its candidate for the Bangarmau seat in Unnao.

The party, desperately trying to regain a foothold in the state, has largely elected people who have a long relationship with Congress. Sushil Chaudhary has been sent from Bulandshahr, while Mukund Bhaskar Mani Tripathi from Deoria. Both began their political careers with NSUI, the student wing of Congress. Kamlesh Singh has been nominated to fill the seat of the Naugat Sadat Assembly. He runs a school and comes from a family of Congressional leaders.

Voting will take place on November 3 and the counting of votes on November 10.
