Calcutta:
In a new volley, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar asked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday to urgently brief him on the “explosive” law and order situation in the state.
There was no response from the secretariat until Saturday night, which Jagdeep Dhankhar called an “unreceptive stance” from the state government.
Jagdeep Dhankhar had tweeted earlier in the morning, “…. @ MamataOfficial has been communicated by ACS my board that CM Mamamta Banerjee urgently informs me about the dark and explosive law and order scenario on WB. CS ordered to respond at 2 PM” .
With no response to your inquiry from the CMO or the chief secretary until the evening, Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted “Unfortunately, CS @MamataOfficial has not responded.”
“The stance of no response, while maintaining such a fundamental position as head of the state bureaucratic apparatus, is indicative of a collapsing system, which should be avoided,” he said.
“I hope that, taking into account the August position you occupy and the applicable legal regime, you will review your non-responsive approach and contact the constitutional head as directed by ACS (additional chief secretary) to the governor,” the governor signed.
Unfortunately CS @MamataOfficial has not responded and therefore sent a message: ‘I hope that, taking into account the august position you occupy and the applicable legal regime, you will review your non-responsive approach and contact the constitutional head as directed by ACS to the governor ‘. https://t.co/Rr3kuqWTzLpic.twitter.com/WM6FxDi2b6

Jagdeep Dhankhar had tweeted in the morning: “I am sure that considering the essence, letter and spirit of the Constitution and the alarming state of law and order. @MamataOfficial @WBPolice @KolkataPolice Honble CM would urgently inform me about the current situation and human rights issues, keeping the public interest first, “the governor said in that tweet on Saturday.
He had been raising his concerns about law and order and other issues in various tweets in the past and seeking a response from the CMO.
On Friday, Jagdeep Dhankhar said in Siliguri that in West Bengal more than one rape or kidnapping takes place every hour during the month of August, according to data officially provided to him.
The governor said that by releasing the information to the public, he had fulfilled his duty as a constitutional incumbent by sensitizing people to crimes against women.
Jagdeep Dhankhar said that the divisional commissioners sent him reports containing the data on crime in West Bengal for August, which they had simultaneously sent to the secretary-in-chief of state.
“I have warned both the chief secretary and the secretary of the Interior, I have not yet received their response,” he had said.
