United had been looking for another striker and started looking for options after it became clear that a deal for Jadon Sancho seemed unlikely.
Cavani has a proven record of scoring goals after successful stints at Napoli and in Paris.
Last season he found his options limited, but he left the Parc des Princes as PSG’s all-time top scorer.
His streak of 49 goals in the 2016/17 season was a personal record and shows that he has the talent to back up his ambitions as he fights to start at Old Trafford.
