Two Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel set a record for the highest skydiving landing while conducting the maneuver at Khardung La Pass in Leh. It is situated at an altitude of 17,982 feet.
Wing Commander Gajanad Yadava and Petty Officer AK Tiwari conducted the skydiving exercise to celebrate the 88th Air Force Day on October 8.
“Landing at such an altitude is extremely challenging due to the low oxygen levels combined with the low density of the air and the rugged and inhospitable terrain,” the IAF said in an official statement.
“Both Air Warriors have demonstrated outstanding professionalism, determination and determination to overcome adverse conditions and achieve the great success of setting a new IAF record,” the statement said.
The Indian Air Force celebrated its 88th founding day on October 8. During the grand flight at Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad, several aircraft, including the newly recruited Rafales, took part in the celebration.
In his speech on the occasion, IAF Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria said that the force is always ready to protect the sovereignty and interests of the nation “in all circumstances.”
“I want to assure the nation that the IAF will evolve and will always be ready to safeguard the sovereignty and interests of our nation,” said the chief of Air.
On the ongoing confrontation with China in Ladakh, Bhadauria had said: “I congratulate all the air warriors for a swift response in the recent confrontation on the northern borders, when we deploy our combat assets on short notice to handle any eventuality and provide proactive support for all deployment and livelihood requirements for the Indian Army. “
Indian and Chinese troops are involved in a bitter border clash in eastern Ladakh and the IAF has made a significant deployment to the region.
