JAIPUR: Thousands of people gathered in Bukna Village of Rajasthan on Saturday to protest the brutal murder of Babulal Vaishnav temple priest since the victim’s family refused to perform the last rites, seeking action and financial assistance.
The priest was burned alive by the land mafia while trying to prevent them from invading the temple land.

The victim’s family has demanded financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh, a government job, security for themselves and the immediate arrest of the accused.

Villagers have threatened that the priest’s last rites will not take place until the demands are met.
At the time of submitting this report, Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena had arrived in Bukna village and was sitting in dharna in support of the villagers’ demands, seeking justice for the victim’s family.
Meena said that the leader of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, should go to Bukna and meet the victim’s family.
Meena said she will continue to sit in dharna until justice is served.
The priest, Babulal Vaishnav of the Radha Gopal Ji temple in Bukna village in Karauli district, died Thursday at Jaipur SMS Hospital while receiving treatment for burns.
About six people had allegedly poured gasoline on the temple priest and set him on fire when he tried to prevent them from invading the temple grounds. The priest was rushed to the local hospital, from where he was transferred to the Jaipur hospital. He took his last breath Thursday night.
On Friday, Brahmin organizations staged a protest near the hospital morgue demanding action against the local police station in charge, transfer of the case to another office in the circle, a government job and compensation for the family. A team of police officers assured them that their demands would be met. It was only then that family members brought the body to the village, said Suresh Mishra, a Brahmin leader.
Meanwhile, the BJP sent a three-member team consisting of Alka Gurjar, MP Ramcharan Bohra and former BJYM leader Jitendra Meena to the village on Saturday for an investigation.
