Two terrorists were shot dead in an ongoing shooting in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, following another encounter in the Kulgam district of the Union territory earlier that day, police said Saturday.
Local police and security forces are working in the Dadoora area of the southern district of Kashmir, they added. More details are expected.
In the Kulgam district, the security forces had launched a search operation on Friday night after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area. The operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired at the forces, a police officer said. Two terrorists were killed in the shooting that followed. While the identity of the two dead terrorists is unknown, the police had recovered an M4 rifle and a pistol from the meeting place.
Meanwhile, the Indian army thwarted Pakistan’s attempt to infiltrate weapons and ammunition along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of the Kupwara district in northern Kashmir. Lieutenant General BS Raju, commanding general officer of the Chinar Army Corps, said Pakistan tried to send weapons, including four AK-74s and a large amount of ammunition using a tube through the Kishanganga River in Keran.
