Srinagar:
The Army has thwarted an attempt to push weapons and ammunition by Pakistan from the other side of the Line of Control (LoC) into the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir and recovered a hideout, including four AK-74 rifles, said the authorities today.
Alert troops thwarted Pakistan’s attempt to push weapons through the LoC in the Keran sector of Kupwara district in northern Kashmir, an army official said. He said the Army noticed that two or three men were carrying some items in a tube attached to a rope across the Kishenganga River.
The troops immediately arrived at the scene and recovered four AK-74 rifles, eight magazines and 240 cartridges hidden in two bags. The area has been cordoned off and a search is underway, the official said.
He said it was another attempt by terrorists from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to smuggle war-like shops, but was successfully thwarted by the swift action of alert troops.
The Corps Commander of Lieutenant General BS Raju of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said: “There has been no change in Pakistani intentions.”
“This morning, in the Keran sector, Pakistan tried to send across the Kishenganga river four AK-74 rifles and a huge cache of ammunition in a tube, but our warning troops with the help of surveillance devices recovered the cache. It means there has been no change in Pakistan’s intentions. We will continue to thwart their attempts in the future as well, “Lieutenant General Raju told reporters in Srinagar.
“There have been attempts in Keran, Tangdhar, in the Jammu sector and in Punjab as well. The main objective is to keep the people of Kashmir always involved in terrorism. But our determination is to stop the entry of weapons so that there are minimal losses.” to the people here. We need the cooperation of the people in this in order to stop terrorism, “said the Corps Commander.
