An 18-year-old student was beaten to death in Delhi allegedly over his relationship with a girl, police said. Five people have been detained by the police in the case, including three minors.
Rahul, the 18-year-old who died, was a resident of Adarsh Nagar in West Delhi. Moments before he was attacked, he was seen on security footage with the girl.
“During the investigation, we found out that the boy, who was a resident of Jahangirpuri, was a friend of a girl and his family was against it. His brother and other family members beat the boy for this and he died from the injuries,” he said the senior police officer. Vijayanta Arya told reporters.
“Rahul was a tuition teacher and taught students at home. He was a second year Bachelor of Arts student. He was attacked by more than 8 to 10 men and despite attempts by some people from the surrounding area to save him , they continued to beat him, “Rahul’s father said.
A CCTV video from October 7 (Tuesday) shows Rahul, in the street with the girl, when it is believed that some people called him to request the license plate. While traveling a certain distance on foot, he was badly beaten; died in a hospital later due to injuries. The girl’s family was against the relationship because the two families are from different communities, according to police.
He is said to have died due to serious internal injuries, according to the autopsy report.
