Srikant Datar to succeed Nitin Nohria as Dean of Harvard Business School


WASHINGTON: Harvard Business School named Friday Srikant Datar as his next Dean, succeeding another Indian-American Nitin Nohria.
Datar, who is currently the Arthur Lowes Dickinson Professor of Business Administration and senior associate dean for university affairs at HBS, will take office on January 1.
“Srikant Datar is an innovative educator, distinguished scholar, and deeply experienced academic leader,” HBS President Larry bacow he said when announcing the appointment. “He is a leading thinker on the future of business education, and has recently played an essential role in HBS’s creative response to the challenges posed by COVID-19. pandemic.
Datar will be the 11th dean in the 112-year history of the School of Business, and it is the first time that HBS will have consecutive American Indian deans. HBS said Nitin Nohria, who last November announced plans to conclude his dean at the end of June 2020 after 10 years of distinguished service, had agreed to continue through December in light of the pandemic.
Datar received his BA, with distinction, from the University of Bombay in 1973. A Chartered Accountant, he received a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, before completing a Masters in Statistics (1983) economic Sciences (1984) and a Ph.D. in business (1985), all from Stanford University.
