With a higher number of recoveries compared to the new cases reported daily, a sustained downward trend can be observed in active cases. While 70,496 new patients were added on Thursday, 78,365 were discharged the same day. With 8.93 lakh of active cases, the count is below 9 lakh for the first time after a month.
The average weekly number of new cases has been less than the average number of daily recoveries for the past three weeks. Additionally, the weekly average of new cases itself has been declining. For example, from October 2-8, the average number of new cases dropped to 5.23 lakh from more than 6.14 lakh during September 18-24.
“This is the result of the collaborative action of the states and UT under the strategy of the Center for comprehensive tests, follow-up, rapid hospitalization and compliance with the standard treatment protocol that has ensured a standardized quality of medical care in public and private hospitals and for cases of home isolation, “said the Ministry of Health.
On Thursday, India posted an average positivity of 6.53%, while Goa posted the highest positivity rate at 30.20%. The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases stood at 69.06,151, which includes 1,06,490 deaths from the infection so far. On Thursday, 964 cases of death were reported.
While seven states and UT have a positivity rate below 5%, a total of 22 have a positivity below the national average. However, states and UTs such as Goa, Maharshtra, Chandigarh, Nagaland, and Kerala continue to report a high rate of positivity. They were followed by Sikkim with 19.82%, Maharashtra with 17.58%, Chandigarh with 14.97%, Nagaland with 13.64% and Kerala with 13.08%.
