Speaking in the Air Force Day Ceremony at Hindan Air Base in Ghaziabad, on the IAF’s 88th anniversary, he said: “I would like to congratulate all the warriors for the swift response in the recent confrontation on our northern borders, when we deployed our combat resources with little in advance to handle any eventualities and proactively support all deployment and sustenance requirements for the Indian Army. “

He said: “(The) emerging security scenario demands a greater need for a strong Air Force, to fight in all domains across the spectrum of warfare.” He said the vision “for this decade is to continue to comprehensively expand our combat capacity and to be a force to be reckoned with throughout the sphere of influence; through a careful structuring of the force, modernization, operational training and the acquisition of indigenous equipment to achieve substantial self-sufficiency ”.

The evolving threat matrix in the region, he said, “is becoming complex, from aspirational adversaries with huge investments in military arsenal, to those collusively supported by non-state actors, in addition to the growing sub-conventional threats of terrorism and cyberspace “.

He mentioned that “disruptive technologies and easy access to low-cost options such as drones, increasingly require more attention to the subconventional domain.”
