PATNA: The daughter of his first wife’s former Union Minister Ramvilas Paswan and her husband staged a protest at Patna airport on Friday after they were not allowed in to receive the body of the deceased leader.
Paswan’s daughter, Asha Devi, and her husband, Anil Sadhu, protested in front of the car of the senior vice minister, Sushil Kumar Modi, when he had come to receive the body of the founder of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
“Why is politics being played on such a sad occasion? Why are your daughter and her relatives not allowed into the airport?” Paswan’s son-in-law told reporters.
Sadhu is currently associated with Lalu Prasad’s RJD.
Asha Devi also enraged the district administration for preventing him from entering the airport.
Prime Minister Nitish Kumar has also come to the airport to receive the body of the veteran leader.
Officials said only selected people can enter the airport in light of security considerations.
Asha Devi is the Paswan daughter of his first wife Raj Kumari Devi, who still lives in her native village of Saharbanni in Khagaria District of Bihar.
Besides Asha Devi, Usha Devi is another daughter of the late leader of his first wife.
Paswan had married Raj Kumari Devi in the 1960s. In 2014, he revealed that he had divorced her in 1981, after his Lok Sabha nomination papers were questioned.
In 1983, he had married Reena sharma, a hostess and a Punjabi Hindu from Amritsar. They have a son and a daughter. His son Chirag Paswan is in charge of the LJP today.
From Jay Prakash Narayan Airport, his body will be taken to the Bihar Legislative Assembly premises, where legislators and others will pay tribute to him.
From there, his mortal remains will be transferred to the headquarters of the LJP in the state capital where they will remain overnight, party sources said.
He will be cremated on the bank of the Ganges river at Digha ghat with all the honors of the state on Saturday.
Ram Vilas Paswan was born in late Shri Jamun Paswan and the late Siya Devi in a Dalit family in the village of Shaharbanni on July 5, 1946.
Paswan, who had a law degree and a master of arts degree, began his entry into electoral politics with a victory from the Alauli Assembly seat in 1969 on the Samyukta Socialist Party ballot.
The leader had made national headlines after winning the 1977 Lok Sabha elections from the Hajipur seat with a record margin of votes on the Janata Party list. Since then, he has represented the Hajipur seat eight times.
