In Navratri this year there won’t be Garba event in Gujarat. The pomp and grandeur associated with Navratri in the state will be largely lacking. The Gujarat government said on Friday Garba Meetings will not be allowed during Navratri, starting on October 17. A set of Covid-related guidelines has been issued for the holiday season. Navratri in Gujarat tends to have high concentrations, which can lead to an increase in COVID-19 infections in the state, authorities said.

Navratri 2020: No Garba, Gujarat’s Holiday Season Guidelines

  • Not Garba The event will be allowed in Gujarat: large, medium or small.
  • People can hold small gatherings to pray to Goddess Durga.
  • More than 200 people cannot be present at the prayer sessions.
  • Durga prayer sessions cannot exceed one hour.
  • A strict vigil will be kept so that no one can perform Garba in meetings
  • People who want to organize prayer sessions must obtain prior permission from the government.
  • At prayer meetings, COVID-19-related norms, such as maintaining social distance, wearing masks, and disinfectants are mandatory.
  • Citizens over 65, children under 10, pregnant women, and people with comorbidities should avoid participating in any public programs during Navratri.
  • If a meeting is organized, people should mark the floor with a minimum distance of six feet.
  • Thermal scanners are a must at Navratri community prayers and other events.
  • During Dussehra, the burning of effigies of Ravana, Ramlila Yatras will not be allowed
  • No exhibitions and fairs will be allowed from Navratri to Diwali
  • People have been advised to celebrate Dussehra, Durga Puja, Diwali, Gujarati New Years, Bhai Dooj and Sharad Poornima at home with their families.
  • For any function such as marriage ceremonies, up to 100 guests can attend. The same number of people is also allowed at funerals.
