HAL Employee Arrested For Providing Details Of A Fighter Plane To Pak ISI

Deepak Shirsath was providing confidential information via WhatsApp and social media, police said.

Mumbai:

The Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad today arrested an employee of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for allegedly supplying secret information on fighter jets to the Pakistan Interservice Intelligence (ISI) agency.

“The Nashik unit of the state Antiterrorist Squad (ATS) received reliable information about the man, who was in constant contact with ISI. The man, identified as Deepak Shirsath, was providing confidential information about Indian fighter jets and its manufacturing unit to the Pakistan spy agency through WhatsApp and social media, “DCP Vinay Rathod said.

He also shared information related to the HAL aircraft manufacturing unit in Ozar near Nashik, the air base and prohibited areas within the manufacturing unit, the official said.

An offense under the Official Secrets Act has been registered against the 41-year-old man who worked as a deputy supervisor.

Three mobile phones, five SIM cards and two memory cards have been confiscated, he said.

HAL Nashik Aircraft Division is located in Ojhar, 15 miles from Nashik and about 200 miles from Mumbai.

Established in 1964 to manufacture under license MiG-21FL aircraft and K-13 missiles, the division has also manufactured other MiG variants such as MiG-21M, MiG-21 BIS, MiG-27 M and the latest generation Su-. 30 MKI fighter plane.

The division also carries out overhaul of MiG series aircraft and repair and overhaul (ROH) of Su-30 MKI aircraft.
