Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay denied the charges, saying that the BJP’s march to the Nabanna state secretary was carried out without permission.
“The applicant had mentioned several rallies last night and said that each rally will have around 25,000 young people. If every demonstration had to be allowed, it would have been a sham under the closure rules,” he said.
Bandopadhyay, who refuted accusations of spraying water ‘with chemicals’ on BJP workers during the march, said that “no chemicals were used in the cannon water, it is incorrect information. The overall intention of using colored water is to identify a person after dispersal for more needs action according to law if necessary. ”
Trade union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad condemned the “barbaric treatment” of his party’s workers by the state police.
“There is no democracy in West Bengal. Anti-government protesters are implicated in the cases or are harassed by the police or killed, ”said BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Clashes broke out between BJP workers and West Bengal police in various parts of the state during the Saffron party’s ‘Nabanna chalo’ protest.
Police personnel in riot gear set off tear gas projectiles, beat rioters and used water cannons to break up the protests still raging in Kolkata and Howrah.
