The University Scholarship Commission, UGC in the published Academic Calendar has asked universities to complete the admission process before October 31. Accordingly, classes for the odd-numbered semester batches, 1st, 3rd and 5th, must start from November 1, 2020. In case of delay due to various circumstances, universities have been allowed to start the odd-numbered semesters (intermediate semesters) before November 18, 2020.
In the published academic calendar, in accordance with the meeting of September 21, the UGC has requested universities to start the semesters from November 1, 2020, in case admissions have been completed before October 31 . However, according to the UGC, there is a delay in the declaration of reuse of qualifying exams, institutions may delay and pressure the odd semester classes to start from November 18, 2020. The Commission has also given the recommendation to hold classes 6 days a week for the 2020-21 academic session so that the loss of learning hours is compensated.
Institutions can offer combined teaching processes, either online, offline, or using both. Furthermore, in the event of cancellation of admission to a particular university, UGC has asked the universities to refund the admission fee in full to the parents or student in question. UGC published a notice that said: “The UGC once again requested the Committee of Experts to review the guidelines dated 04-29-2020 and 07-06-2020 and suggest an Academic Calendar for the first year of the UG and PG programs for the 2020 session -2021. The Commission in its emergent meeting held on 09/21/2020 based on the Report of the Committee of Experts approved the UGC guidelines on Academic Calendar for the first year of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of Universities for the 2020-21 session in the face of the Pandemic of COVID19 ”.
According to the guidelines, merit-based admissions for the first year of the 2020-21 academic session must be completed by the end of October 2020. The last date for universities / colleges to fill the remaining vacant positions would be November 2020
