Richa Chadha v. Payal Ghosh in libel lawsuit
Richa Chadha had filed a libel suit in Bombay High Court against Payal Ghosh for naming her in the latter’s sexual assault charges against Anurag Kashyap. In court Wednesday, Payal Ghosh’s attorney Nitin Satpute stated that she was ready to apologize to Richa Chadha and regretted her statement. Richa Chadha’s attorneys, Veerendra Tulzapurkar and Saveena Bedi Sachar, accepted her apology and stated that she would not press for damages.
Before Wednesday’s hearing, Payal Ghosh’s attorney had stated the reason for his absence from court Tuesday for the scheduled initial hearing.

Responding to the statement, Richa Chadha shared screenshots of the messages sent to Payal Ghosh of the interim lawsuit and application and how the latter had been received on March 29 and October 3.

Payal Ghosh has alleged that Anurag Kashyap sexually assaulted her in 2013. An FIR has been filed against the filmmaker under sections 376 (I) (rape), 354 (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with the intention of insulting his modesty), 341 (unlawful restraint) and 342 (unlawful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code. Kashyap has denied the allegations, claiming that he had been in Sri Lanka during the alleged period and calling the accusations “false” and an attempt to vilify him.
