Police have ruled out any foul play in the alleged suicide of Ashwani Kumar, former governor of Nagaland, head of Himachal’s CBI and DGP, who was cremated here Thursday with all the honors of the state.
A contingent of the police was awarded guard of honor when his son Abhishek lit the pyre.

Although the post-mortem report was expected, at first it appeared to be a suicide case, a police officer said, citing statements from family members and a suicide note left by the deceased.
One case was registered and proceedings were initiated under Section 174 of the CrPC, DGP Kundu said.
“Witness statements, including direct relatives, have been recorded, forensic teams have visited the scene, the crime scene has been photographed and all items such as the ladder and rope involved in the incident have been seized,” he said. An official.
Hours before his death, sources said, Ashwani Kumar appeared normal, had lunch with his family and then moved for an evening walk to Mall Road and also visited the Kali Bari temple. He followed his normal routine, sources said.
It was around 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday when his son and daughter-in-law, while out for a walk, found the door to Ashwani Kumar’s room locked from the inside. They broke the door and found the ex-DGp hanging from a rope, it was revealed.
Ashwani Kumar had gone to Mumbai two months ago, after which he learned that he had developed symptoms of depression. He has not mentioned anything in his four to suicide note except referring to his illness and wishing the family the best.
Kundu said that Ashwani Kumar was an inspiration and a role model for many.
The note has not blamed anyone and referred to some disease. He says that “he committed suicide of his own free will and embarks on a journey after life, there should be no ceremonies or rituals and wishes his family members a happy life.”
Ashwani Kumar had promised his organs, but that could not be done due to the delay caused by the legal proceedings and the autopsy. Family members were also not interested in donating the organs, it is known.
