BENGALURU: Paytm, the leading Noida-based payments company, which launched its applet platform this week, will add close to 1 million applets before Google plans to make Play Store billing mandatory for Indian developers by April of 2021.
In a virtual conference on Thursday, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma said the company will invest about ₹10 crore for its mini-app development ecosystem, which has been in beta since the beginning of this year.
Through its mini-app store, businesses, both small and large, can launch their progressive web application (PWA), in the main Paytm application, and achieve the visibility of their online stores.
Sharma added that it will not charge any commission for payments made for goods and services sold by mini-apps on Paytm.
The mini app store will be integrated with their ‘Paytm for Business’ app, where small businesses can launch their digital avatar on the Paytm app store.
He added that these applets will appear on the main Paytm home page and will be customized based on usability, location, and customer preferences.
“Perhaps the real money gaming apps could leak from the mini apps, which violates Google’s Play Store policy,” Sharma said, when asked about the mini app store leak.
Users will also be able to save their favorite applets to the home page of their Android device for ease of use, Paytm added. Additionally, the platform will add more than 20 entry points for these mini apps.
