JDU 2020 Bihar Candidate List: JD (U) publishes its list of 115 names, ex-DGP excluded |


PATNA: Bihar’s JD (U) ruling on Wednesday released the list of its 115 candidates for the state assembly elections to be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7.
The ‘Samdhi’ Chandrika Rai of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who recently defected from his party and joined the Nitish Kumar camp, has been nominated by the JD (U) from his traditional seat in the Parsa assembly in the district of Saran.
However, the name of former state police chief Gupteshwar Pandey, who recently voluntarily retired from police service, resigned from the state DGP post and joined the ruling JD (U) in hopes of getting the party’s ballot from the seat. of the Buxar assembly, he is missing from the list of 115 candidates, which was published by JD (U) senior leaders here Wednesday.
Buxar’s seat passed to the BJP kitty as a result of the exchange of seats between the two NDA allies. And Pandey’s dream of contesting the polls of his home district’s current assembly was shattered after the BJP announced the name of its official Buxar candidate on Wednesday. Parashuram Chaturvedi will compete as Buxar’s BJP candidate.
The JD (U) candidate list was released at a party event before State President Bashishtha Narain Singh, Rajya Sabha Party Leader Ram Chandra Prasad Singh and its Acting State President and Building Construction Minister Ashok Choudhary .
JD (U) earned a total of 122 seats as part of his shared seat with the BJP. Out of 122, he assigned seven seats to Industani Awam Morcha, formerly led by CM Jitan Ram Manjhi. The remaining 115 seats are being contested by the JD (U).
JD (U) has submitted 22 female candidates.
A detailed analysis of the list revealed that the ruling party has assigned its ticket to at least 10 traitors, including Chandrika Rai, who recently left the RJD and Congress and joined Nitish Kumar’s party. Chandrika Rai, father of Lalu’s eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav’s estranged wife, Aishwarya rai, had recently switched to JD (U) from RJD after his daughter’s relationship with the Lalu family broke down.
Chandrika, the son of former Prime Minister Daroga Prasad Rai and a minister in the RJD government in the past, will be in the fray for the Parsa constituency in the Saran district, whom he has represented up to six times.
Other prominent renegades who received the JD (U) ticket are Jai Vardhan Yadav (Paliganj), Ashok Kumar (Sasaram), Maheshwar Yadav (Gaighat), Faraz Fatmi (Rural Darbhanga), Birendra Kumar Singh (Teghra), Purnima Yadav (Gobidnpur ), Sudarshan Kumar (Barbigha), Vijendra Kumar Yadav (Sandesh) and former RJD MLC Sanjay Prasad (Chakai headquarters in Jamui district).
Although former DGP Pandey was unable to find a place on JD (U) ‘s list of candidates, his former police colleague Sunil Kumar, who recently retired as Director General and Managing Director of the Police Building Construction Corporation of Bihar, received the JD (U) Ticket from the traditional Bhore (reserved seat) of his family in Gopalganj district. Sunil’s brother and leader of Congress, Anil Kumar, was the MLA aide from the Bhore seat.
Former welfare minister Kumari Manju Verma, whose name stood out in the Muzaffarpur foster home case, also received the JD (U) ticket from Cheria Bariyarpur seart in the Begusarai district.
The outgoing president Vidhan Sabha Vijay Kumar Choudhary has been dispatched from his traditional Sarairanjan headquarters in the Samastipur district.
The Ministers of State – Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Ram Sevak Singh, Shrawan Kumar, Jai Kumar Singh, Bima Bharti, Khursheed Firoz Ahmad and Shailesh Kumar have been repeated in their respective constituencies. The constituency of Education Minister Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma and Food Minister Madan Sahni has changed. Verma has been sent to Jehanabad from Ghosi and Sahni to Bahadurpur from Gaura Bauram.
Active JD (U) chairman Ashok Choudhary told TOI that party chairman Nitish Kumar had tried to give adequate representation to all communities on the party’s candidate list. He said members of the extremely backward classes (EBC) and women have had special preference in the distribution of tickets.
