The Bengal tigress will defend herself

Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer said that Sushant Rajput’s family looks very vindictive when it comes to Rhea.

New Delhi:

Rhea Chakraborty became the subject of a hate campaign because she was the girlfriend of Sushant Singh Rajput, but the “Bengal tigress will defend herself,” her lawyer told NDTV today, hours after the 28-year-old was released under Bail from Bombay High Court.

“She will fight all those idiots. Shameless people who destroyed her image are lining up outside my office for my interview,” Satish Manshinde said, referring to a section of the media that has come under scrutiny for its limitless coverage of the death of the actor and its aftermath.

Rhea Chakraborty was released from Mumbai Byculla Jail today after staying there for almost a month. The Narcotics Control Office, which arrested her on September 9 in the course of its investigation into the drugs angle in the case, had accused her of being “an active member of a drug union.”

In the bail order, the Superior Court flatly contradicted the agency’s claims, saying she was not part of a chain of drug traffickers.

Noting that the charges did not mention the involvement of drugs in commercial quantities, the court said that spending money on acquiring drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput “does not mean that she has financed the illicit trafficking.”

“Simply providing money for a particular transaction or other transactions will not fund that activity,” the court said.

“The judge found that the amount (of drugs involved) was very minor. It was not equivalent to the amount that can be marketed,” Manshinde said. “I am grateful to the superior court that the judge reviewed all the material that was given to him,” he added.

When asked about the defamation of Rhea Chakraborty, Manshinde said that “corrupt journalists” were simply looking for PRT, as no news came during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Bombay High Court is examining the role of the media trial. The Supreme Court is also examining the role of the media trial in this case,” he said. “A channel was discussing my rates, my cars and my office. I saw an attack on social media. How are you concerned about my rate (news anchors)?” added.

The twists and turns in the case began days after Sushant Rajput’s death on June 14 when social media exploded with accusations of nepotism and cliques in Bollywood, making it difficult for outsiders to find a foothold and grow.

While the Mumbai police, who said his death was a suicide, focused on investigating allegations of nepotism, Sushant Rajput’s family accused Rhea Chakraborty of drugging him, exploiting him for money and playing a role in his death.

His claims only brought the case into the political arena, they also opened the floodgates of accusations and ridicule at Rhea Chakraborty.

“Sushant Rajput’s family seems very vindictive when it comes to Rhea,” Manshinde said today.

Rhea Chakraborty, she added, was harassed “because she was Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend, she was the roommate. She was almost like the housewife.”

Currently, three central agencies – the Central Investigation Office, the Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Office – are investigating various angles of the case.
