Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked over the past 20 years to achieve the “welfare state” envisioned by the drafters of India’s constitution, Union Interior Minister Amit Shah said today, paying tribute to the long and uninterrupted mandate of his colleague as head of elected governments.
In a series of tweets written in Hindi, which included a video message, Shah said that Prime Minister Modi had always considered the welfare of the people as the most important principle.
“If anyone can truly understand the aspirations of 130 crore Indians, it is Narendra Modi. With his vision for the future, he wants to build a strong, modern and self-sufficient India. I congratulate him with all my heart on his 20th year as a representative of the people.” he said in one of those tweets.
“When the party gave him a chance and he ran for prime minister, the people of this nation supported him and after 30 years a party had the opportunity to form an absolute majority government,” he said in another.
Several BJP leaders and union ministers today tweeted messages with the hashtag # 20thYearOfNamo.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 70, was sworn in as Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001; He was elected to the state assembly on February 24, 2002.
Shah has been a close companion and colleague of Prime Minister Modi even before this period. He was Minister of State for the Home in Gujarat during Mr. Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister.
