The former governor of Manipur and Nagaland, and former CBI director Ashwani Kumar, was found dead at his Shimla residence on Wednesday.
IE reported that Shimla police have transferred the body to the Indira Gandhi Medical School for an autopsy. Police also launched an investigation at the East Police Station in Chhota Shimla, the report added.
Kumar, a 69-year-old IPS officer from the 1973 group, became director of CBI in 2008, succeeding Vijay Shanker.
PTI reported that he had also served in the force of the Special Protection Group (SPG), which primarily protects the prime minister, and was appointed governor of Nagaland in 2013.
Kumar, a former DGP of Himachal Pradesh, was currently the rector of a private university in Shimla.
